Roll Call [04 Apr 2006|11:03pm]

I've been remiss and for that I apologise to all. But as the fandom at the moment seems to be exceptionally quiet, I thought it might be nice to get the community up and running again. To do that though I need to know how many of you are interested in taking part.

The rules will change a fair amount. Each week I will post a challenge which could be anything from some lyrics to a general topic to an image or absolutely anything (if you've any suggestions or requests as to what the challenges could be drop me an email!) Then you guys can respond however you please. The norm will be short stories, but could also include icons, drabbles, longer fiction, banners and headers etc. Let the muse run wild. You'll be able to take part as often or as little as you like. There won't be awards, but the community in general will be encouraged to give feedback etc.

Once (if) the community gets up and running I'll ask people to only post responses to challenges over here. But I don't see any reason why the occasional x-post with the awesome spooky_doings can't go on for some of the longer fics.

What I need from you guys now though is a yay or a nay to the idea. How do you feel about that sort of weekly challenge? Would you rather have more time to work on stories? I'm really open to ideas so just reply to this post. Either way, what I'm looking for is a reply from everyone who wants to actively take part in the group so that I can get some idea of the numbers.

So 'cmon! Talk to me!

New screen-caps resource [29 Mar 2006|09:02am]

Some of you will, I'm sure, have discovered this for yourselves but the brilliant Gia has developed a screen caps website. I asked her for permission to pimp it around the bazaars and here's what she said:

I'd love for this website to be useful for the Spooks community, so a link to the website would be great. As long as you're not linking directly to the photos themselves, and linking the main page (http://eclectic-muse.org/spooks/), it's totally fine.

What a star!

apologies [17 Mar 2006|10:14pm]

[ mood | sorry ]

tigertrapped has suggested I post a note to apologise profusely but my entry in the ficathon will be late - about five months late.

Sorry - I presumed people posted when they were ready, I wasn't aware people actually waited for fic to be posted. I've never done one of these before on LJ.

The muse has been caught up in other things - it's writing three fandoms at the moment as it is, anymore and I'd get confused! I promise to post my fic when Spooks returns in the summer.

Apologies. :-(

FIC: The Science of Good-Byes [19 Feb 2006|04:48pm]

Now that I actually remembered to join the community, here's my entry. Thanks to perverseparagon for setting this in motion. I am thoroughly enjoying all the stories!

FIC: The Science of Good-Byes
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Spooks/MI-5
Characters: Ruth Evershed, Harry Pearce
Description: Set post-3x02, "The Sleeper"; major spoilers through 3x02.
Written for: the spooks_creative ficathon; phoenix_elena wanted "tipsy Ruth" and Harry, plus a few other elements that I tried to work in.
Disclaimer: Ruth and Harry are owned by people who aren't me; Americanisms and canon-mistakes are mine. Thanks to callmesandy for extremely helpful feedback.

I have studied the science of good-byes,
The bareheaded laments of night
. . .
How poor is the language of happiness!
Everything has happened before and will happen again
But still the moment of each meeting is sweet.

-Osip Mandelshtam, "Tristia"

Title: (When) Innocence is Lost
Author: sangerin
Written For: moth2fic, who wanted Danny in ep 3.5, IT skills and some possibly angsty Zoe.

[19 Feb 2006|12:39pm]

Title: We’ll Always Have Paris
Author: hestia8
Summary: Danny needs a girlfriend
Disclaimer: Not mine, sadly.
Pairing: Ruth/Danny
Written For: melwil who wanted Ruth/Danny, them doing things outside of work, people at work finding out, and ballet.

Major, major thanks to Ellie for the idea, because without that it would never have got started. And thanks to Bex for the ending, without which it would never have got finished. Set somewhere in late series 3. Oh, and the timeline of a few months might seem wonky, but then so is canon. Many many thanks also to perverseparagon for the beta.

Thanks go to fledge for beta work. All remaining errors are mine!

How to Post Ficathon Fics! [18 Feb 2006|06:12pm]

Well my lovelies it's that time!

Tomorrow you can start posting your completed ficathon assignments right here. I've opened up the community so as long as you're a member (which you really all should be!) then you can post your fics directly here to the community.

1. Please put all of your fic behind a cut!
2. Before the cut be sure to include the following information;

Written For:
Their Request:

Anything else is just gravy.

I look forward to seeing what you've come up with. Constructive comments on everyone's fic will be encouraged. And here's a big preemptive thank you from me for all taking part!

[30 Jan 2006|02:39pm]

Me again.

A few folks have been asking about the length of their fic for the challenge. There really aren't any rules in this regard. However, for an absolute minimum length for your fic I think you should be looking at 1000. As for a maximum, I'm very reticent to set one really. I think so long as your fic doesn't end up as a novel we should be fine.

Unless anyone has any objections to that?

Assignments Sent [11 Jan 2006|06:58pm]

All of the assignments should be out. Hopefully you've all received them okay and there aren't any huge disappointments etc. However, if any of you do have big problems with them let me know. I'm sure we can work something out. Also, if you could all just drop me a line at some point to let me know you have them. That'd be great.

The one thing I will point out, but hopefully you will have noticed this also. Your emails are private. None of you have the email of the person you're writing for, but I have given you their LJ. This way, all you're lovely little addresses remain totally private as I know some of you were a little concerned about that. All ficathon assignments should be posted here to this community on the deadline day. But I'll arrange all of that nearer the time.

For now, good luck writing folks!

Back in business! [14 Dec 2005|06:27pm]

All right gang, we're reopening the community over here. We're opening with a ficathon in fact! So, skip over to the community info to read up on the ficathon rules before jumping in at the deepend.

This is of course the signup post. Reply in a comment, all of which will be screened, with the following information:

What are you willing to write?
What are not you willing to write?

The pairing you'd like to see written:
Three things you would like to see in your story:

The signup period will be closed at 23.00 GMT, Sunday 1st January 2006 so you've plenty of time to think on it and decide if you're going to be free. After that the assignments will go out and no more submissions will be accepted. The more people we get involved the better, so jump on the bandwagon everybody!

Challenge #5 Winners [20 Nov 2005|01:01am]

Because we only had three entrants in two weeks I haven't bothered with voting. There didn't seem much point. So, you can find your winner banners behind the cut.

Challenge #5 [08 Nov 2005|11:03pm]

Okay, the last couple of weeks have been pretty quiet so I'm hoping that we can really get people involved this challenge. So 'cmon people, yes I'm looking at you, take part damnit. Don't make me fetch the pointy stick...

The challenge:
This week the icon and drabble challenge is the same. A lyric challenge! Your drabble must contain at least one line from the song and your icon must have some snippet in. The song is: 'Downfall' by Matchbox Twenty.

Lyrics this wayCollapse )

And because I'm just kinda smashing, I've even snagged an MP3 to get that inspiration flowing. You can find that behind (this here handy fake cut.) It won't be there long so snag it while you can folks.

One icon and/or one drabble each. All entries must be in via comments to this post by midnight Friday, 18.11.05.

Edit: One week to go and still no entries. You're all in shock most likely. Still... getting worried.

#4 Voting [04 Nov 2005|04:57pm]

I won't be around for a while so I'm posting the voting a little early. Hope no one minds, I know we've had a few last minute entries. If you've got another, but haven't had a chance to post it yet, email me and we'll see what we can work out :)

Challenge #4 [23 Oct 2005|11:35pm]

Onwards and upwards my friends. After some sound advice and a little thought we're going to press on with the community. A new challenge and an extended period in which to do it. From now one challenge's will be run on a two week basis, so you've a longer period to work on your entry. The usual rules will apply, you must enter only your own work. The screen caps are from series one episode one, so no spoiling here!

images behind thumbnails stashed hereCollapse )

The drabble challenge this week: Blue (the emotion or the colour, or both if ya fancy it)

Remember, no season four spoilers please.
